Name: Mr. Rujith de Silva Title: Manager, Advanced Applications Company: Industry.Net Address: 639 Alpha Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15232-1955 Industry.Net facilitates business-to-business commerce by providing automated tools that use the Internet and the Web. One area of concern in the company is that in the Web scenario, users have to search for information of interest. This scenario can be inverted by having agents that represent your interests and BRING new information to you. Industry.Net already has a prototype service performing this function at http://ind43.industry.net/diff/. The company wishes to greatly expand the services it provides in this form. In particular, it has received funding from DARPA and NIST for projects involving commerce agents and knowledge-finding agents. In addition, several corporate clients have expressed interest. In my role as Manager of Advanced Applications, I'm heading the company's efforts in this direction. I have evaluated many of the current agent technologies: o Java Agent Template o FTP Software's cyber-agents o Aglets and the Agent Transfer protocol o Telescript/Tabriz from General Magic I think that all these agent implementations have very interesting and useful features, but none of them alone seems a complete solution. By attending the workshop, I hope to gain a better understanding of the thinking about agent technology and the direction in which the field is headed.
