Martin Freeman is currently principal scientist at Philips Research in Palo Alto, CA. He has published papers in the areas of computer architecture, transaction processing, operating systems, and storage systems. Prior to joining Philips Research, he was a senior microprocessor architect at Signetics Corporation, Sunnyvale, CA, a member of the technical staff at Bell Labs, Whippany, NJ, and an associate professor of computer science at American University in Washington, DC. He is currently interested in issues involving multimedia and the Web, and the use of agent technology. He has a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Pennsylvania, and has two additional degrees in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Columbia University. He has also been a Visiting Professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. He holds patents in the areas of memory management units and pattern recognition hardware, and currently chairs the IEEE P1285 Scalable Storage Interface working group. He is also Co-Chairman of Multimedia Computing and Networking 1997.
