Guido van Rossum has a master's degree in math and computer science from the University of Amsterda. He is the creator of Python, an object-oriented scripting and prototyping language. In the eighties, at CWI in Amsterdam (a Dutch government research lab), Guido worked on the implementation teams of ABC (Python's procedural predecessor, designed by Lambert Meertens and others) and Amoeba (Andrew Tanenbaum and Sape Mullender's capability-based distributed operating system). In the nineties, while working on various multimedia projects at CWI, Python gradually took over his life, until he joined CNRI. There, Guido has had a big hand in the design and implementation of a prototype KOE, written entirely Python. With CNRI's support, Guido continues to be one of the driving forces behind the further development of the Python language.
