I first had the idea of taking pictures of the elms when Dartmouth removed one of its largest elms (on the ne corner of Baker, by the old microfilm room,) to make way for an addition to the library. (I am not sure why - the library is not actually on the site of the tree, though perhaps it would have been in the way of construction vehicles.) But the real start was getting a new camera that is small enough to carry with me all the time, and the death of a tree that was on the west side of Baker, that *was* preserved throughout the construction project.
